ERA - European Research Area - The third edition of the ERA Newsletter is now online

 

This edition of the ERA newsletter focuses on gender in research, a timely topic coming in the wake of the 2014 ERA Progress Report. This report provides an overall picture of progress made on the ERA priorities, including gender equality and gender mainstreaming in research. It underlines that gender issues in research and innovation have gained increased recognition in policy agendas at national, European and international level, as well as within research organisations. However, the pace of change is too slow and there are still many disparities among countries. The persistence of gender bias in careers, of gender imbalance in decision-making roles, and the lack of a gender dimension in research programmes remain.

Objective of the consultation

This survey addresses the Interim Evaluation of the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7) The Interim Evaluation of FP7 is being carried out by a group of independent experts, supported by an extensive base of evidence. In order to provide the experts with a range of opinions and views about the functioning and achievements of FP7, this interactive consultation has been set up to allow for contributions both from those with direct experience of the FP, as well as any groups or individuals who wish to give their views. The survey addresses stakeholders including major users of FP7, research organisations and firms.

ERAB "10 key recommendations to optimise the European Research Area" - 08 June 2010

Speaking at the ERAB conference in Seville on 6-7 May 2010, the Commissioner Máire Geoghegan-Quinn challenged ERAB members and participants to provide her with 10 concrete and urgent actions focused on how to optimise Europe's research, innovation and science base with the aim to address society's Grand Challenges and prepare Europe's post-crisis smart, green economy and society.

The ERAB welcomed the challenge and based on the overall feedback from the Conference delegates the ERAB suggested the Commissioner the following 10 key recommendations .
